KERRY TUCK

Imagination can carry us beyond the intersection of the physical plane to other worlds deeply rooted within our being, including our spiritual world and our underworld. Taking time to walk beyond this intersection, to explore myths, traditions and cultures that reside in these worlds is a fundamental essence that guided me throughout my life.

I am strongly influenced by the sacred beauty of nature and what it teaches me. I sit grounded next to the ancient wisdom of the trees while soaring fearlessly in the presence of many winged creatures. I have learnt to listen to the heartbeat of Mother Nature for direction in my life. I am deeply aware that we are all connected, on many different levels.

From as early as I can remember, I created. I drew, painted, danced, worked with timber, explored textiles created patterns and developed shapes. Exploring mediums was my window to the world, which became my window to myself. Through creating I learnt to recognise my truth no matter its guise.

Curious about human expression, human environment and the diverse spectrum of human behaviours, I see through many layers allowing me to sit with another and feel what they feel, hear their most silent voice and see their vibrant illumination of colour. My kind of compassionate spirit honours all life experiences. I have a deep trust that humans can overcome their difficulties, and creatively make new, observations, by deep listening and creative processing.

With a Bachelor of Arts Psychotherapy and a Graduate Diploma in Somatic Dance Movement therapy, I have supported child and youth trauma to complex trauma in adults.

As a Mother and a published co-author in the Broken to Brilliant series, I write programs for specialised groups to address the complexities of trauma.

Professionally I have worked across a broad population of people with varying and diverse needs including:

  • Complex PTSD
  • Trauma
  • addictions
    • diverse cultural backgrounds,
    • marginalised populations within schools,
    • physical disabilities,
    • mental health,
    • domestic violence abusive family systems, child and youth
    • who are non-verbal.

In my life, I will always be a passionate Artist and Maker. I am confident in the creative space and enjoy using creativity as a gateway to healing through Arts Psychotherapy.

DO I REQUIRE ARTIST SKILLS?

It is a misconception that participation in Allied Art Psychotherapies requires the skills of an artist or the ability to be crafty. The creative process will not be interpreted by the therapist. The only skills a person needs to bring their never-ending curiosity.

Weird Fishh offers a non-treating cathartic release, with a play-based approach, experiential knowing is valued as a starting point for self-inquiry and brightens the pathway.

Standing in uncertainty

ART MAKING

Art making can reawaken unconscious and subconscious memories, and the telling of stories may reveal messages. When a person processes creatively it is the ability to make marks.
Everyone has the ability to make a mark of some kind and everyone has a story. Mark-making activates the whole brain and induces the relational response, supports somatic release, bypasses conscious thought, may release a resistant mind, and promotes neural connectivity.

By staying with a creative process without hurrying or manipulating it, art
making invites space for self-renewal and self-discovery.
Spontaneously and with persistence, creativity as a process and not an outcome holds no judgement in the aspect of the human experience and regains a liberated sense of self-esteem and integrity.

RELIEF AND RECOVERY

Relief and recovery serve as core components with Arts Psychotherapies and becomes enhanced when people actively and creatively participate in their own healing.

Shaping behaviour, improves the ability to
self-manage, improves self-worth and self-confidence, supports decision making and lowers stress levels. Promoting positive coping also improves the function of the nervous system.

Flexibility is interwoven through the creative process towards self-renewal.
